Euralis signs a partnership with SOFIAC to launch an ambitious decarbonization project in Lescar

DateSeptember 12, 2025
LocationLescar, Pyrénées-Atlantiques
Euralis has signed an agreement with SOFIAC to deploy three renewable energy sources at its headquarters and industrial site in Lescar (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France). Biomass, solar power, and geothermal energy are at the heart of this project, which aims to strengthen environmental performance and optimize energy costs over the medium and long term. Supported by ADEME and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, this initiative is bringing together a wide range of expertise and resources.

A local project serving a global decarbonization and sustainability strategy

Fully committed to agroecological challenges and corporate social responsibility, Euralis intends to make its Lescar site the spearhead of its energy transition.
This local project is emblematic of our global strategy in terms of decarbonization and energy efficiency. For several years now, our Energy Division has been working to optimize procurement, manage and reduce consumption, and implement decarbonization and efficiency projects.
Olivier Tillous-Borde
Director of Transformations and Strategic Developments at Euralis Group
The investment needs for one of the dryers at the Lescar site, combined with the 2022 energy crisis, were key accelerators. Following an in-depth review of the site’s energy master plan, we developed a bold and optimized technical solution combining a biomass boiler powered by our corn cobs, solar panels, and a geothermal network. SOFIAC stood out for its tailored offer, responsiveness, and ability to finance this multi-energy, multi-technology project.
Olivier Rebenne
Head of the Energy Division and Project Lead for Lescar’s decarbonization plan

SOFIAC will finance 100% of project costs after subsidies, allowing Euralis to carry out its energy transition without mobilizing its own capital.

The project timeline is now clearly defined: equipment orders are scheduled for winter 2026, with commissioning of the installations planned for summer 2027, ensuring full operational readiness for the 2027 harvest.

Key figures of the project:

  • 2,850 tons of CO₂ per year: the expected reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to nearly 1,500 round-trip flights between Paris and New York.
  • 4,500 tons: the annual amount of corn cobs produced locally by Euralis that will fuel the biomass boiler, covering 95% of its needs.
  • 2 x 10 MW: the power capacity of the biomass boiler, which will replace two-thirds of the site’s natural gas consumption.
